The site where the Taiwan Contemporary Culture Lab (C-LAB) situates in the central part of Taipei city has been through different stages of transition from Industrial Research Institute of Taiwan Governor-General’s Office to Air Force Command Headquarters. The site is like a historical constellation of spaces and times, awaiting to be recovered, understood and engaged by people from all walks of life.
“The Alternative Guide of Time”, superimposes historical constellations of space and time that span from the reality to fiction, guiding the audience to revisit the context from the Industrial Research Institute of the Taiwanese Governor-General’s Office during the Japanese rule to the Air Force Command Headquarters period with interdisciplinary cultural production.
“The Alternative Guide of Time” takes the audience to revisit the spatial context of the site through interdisciplinary cultural production. The exhibition puts together works like the contemporary video art work by artist Hsu Chia-Wei, photos of the ruins of Air Force Headquarters by Yao Jui-Chung and Peng Yi-Hang, field research by Hsiao I-Ling, short fiction by novelist Lo Yi-Chin, experiment of video poetry by poet Ye Mimi, and experimental sound performances by folktale researcher Somanana Rain and musical improviser Liu Fangyi. The exhibition also covers several ongoing space collection projects taking place in C-LAB by Collective Negative Space Village, architect Su Hung, and artist Yu-Ting Lin and the essays writing of the life of enlistment by Liao Wei-Yu.
