Translation, which must be full of conflicts, is often considered impossible. However, by constant translation, one can comprehend the genealogy without presupposition when translating. In fact, “translation” can be—and should be a “practice of art.”

“Transnotators: A Research-Oriented Art Project of Notation” is a research-oriented project which is to investigate various “music score” and the presupposed comprehension of  the genealogy of musical genres. Through transcribing, the artist tries to disturb the existing understanding and further stimulate the impulse of art-making. Musicians such as Chung Yu-Feng and Snow Huang are invited to join the project “Musical Transcriber;” they will work as the transcribers and create new “music scores” with the musical instruments they play (such as Pipa, Huqin, and accordion) in the context of the genealogy of musical genres. Besides music-making, the project will include other researchers, musicians or dancers at each phase of research, analysis, transcription, and presentation.
