Consisting of two buildings, the single-story structure was the mess hall for soldiers. On the first floor of the second building was the kitchen and on the second floor was where officers dined. This arrangement highlighted the differences in living conditions among military personnel of different ranks. Interestingly, the mess hall was also a venue for the spreading of propaganda, which required that it be visually spacious with ample room for practical use. To achieve this, a unique structural design was applied, with beams constructed on the roof and columns on the outside, making the interior practically free of beams and columns. The rear building now serves as Taiwan Sound Lab established by C-LAB and the Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics/Music, Paris.
