●○ About 2026 CREATORS
Since launching the CREATORS Creation/Research Support Program (hereafter CREATORS) in 2018, Taiwan Contemporary Culture Lab (C-LAB) has supported creation, research, and cultural experimentation driven by an innovative, cross-disciplinary spirit. Building on this foundation, C-LAB introduced the CREATORS Exhibition/Performance Support Program (CREATORS PLUS) in 2026, enabling previously selected projects to grow into more fully realized exhibitions and performances. Through an exhibition and its accompanying public programs, this year’s edition brings together eight newly selected CREATORS teams and two CREATORS PLUS teams to share their creative practices and progress to date.
●○ Curatorial Statement
We know where we are going—but the way there is not always a straight line.
Amid recurring natural and human-made disasters, the threat of war, and political change, we cannot always proceed straight along the path we set out on. The everyday order we take for granted has in fact taken shape over time through history and relations of power, and it continues to shift as technologies and institutions evolve. When existing rules constrain our actions, can we still exercise our own choices and rethink how space is used, how institutions operate, and how knowledge is passed down? Taking the long way does not mean losing our sense of direction. At times it calls for changing course, waiting, stepping back, or pausing for a while; it may also mean attempting to rewrite the rules through negotiation, rehearsal, and collective action.
The eight CREATORS teams and two CREATORS PLUS teams seek either to reveal how the existing order came into being or to build a provisional alternative of their own. Some return to landscapes on the verge of disappearing; some arrive at new understandings of history through memories of family, migration, and absence; some recalibrate perception through sound, the body, and technology; and others intervene in everyday life through games, collaboration, and temporary collectives, in search of the next path forward.
When going straight is no longer the only shortcut, taking the long way is not simply a search for an exit. Through each change of direction and each action, it becomes a way of reimagining how a path might once again be made by walking it, however complex the terrain.
