Data Exceeds the Limit presented in this exhibition is part of CHANG Wen-Hsuan’s long-term project File:\NewOrder (2023-). After completing this artwork, the artist traveled to Hokkaido, Tokyo, Seoul, Jeju, Manila, and Bataan, documenting how different places narrate the events surrounding World War II—stories that may be excluded in one place yet considered central in another. This multiplicity of historical narratives and their contradictions reveal how history shapes political choices.
CHANG Wen-Hsuan is currently developing a workshop module in response to these findings, and this event marks the very first iteration of that workshop. Participants are invited to take part in this initial experiment. Following the workshop, panelist CHU Yin-Hua will join CHANG in a conversation about the File:\ New Order project.

Speaker Bio
▌CHANG Wen-Hsuan
CHANG Wen-Hsuan's artistic practice questions the narrative structure of institutionalized history with re-readings, re-writing, and suggestions of fictional alternatives in order to expose the power tensions embedded in historical narratives. In 2018, she launched the project Writing FACTory.
▌CHU Yin-Hua
CHU Yin-Hua received a practice-based Ph.D. from the Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media (CREAM) at the University of Westminster, UK, and is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Cultural and Creative Industries Management at National Taipei University of Education, Taiwan. Her research interests include visual culture, image aesthetics, photographic theory, and contemporary art practice. Her work explores the shifting meanings of media in contemporary life, particularly focusing on how photographic technologies in the digital age mediate memory.
