My Father's Playlist, Some Stories|AU Sow-Yee

During a visit back to her family home in Kuala Lumpur, AU Sow-Yee spent an extended period indoors and was struck by the realization that her father played the same playlist on repeat every day. My Father's Playlist, Some Stories revisits and reveals the hidden songs embedded within the sound installation Shattered Night March of the Shimmering Raven. Through storytelling, the lecture performances unravel the layers of her father's personal playlist, decoding its intersections with social, political, and historical spectrums.

Note: “講古” (pronounced gong gu in Cantonese) means “storytelling.” One of the most iconic gong gu programs in Singapore and Malaysia between the 1960s and 1982 was hosted by LEE Dai-Sor on Rediffusion. AU’s father was one of his devoted listeners.
