Remaking the Histories and Bodies: On siren eun young jung's Yeoseong Gukgeuk Project|Eno Pei-Jean CHEN

Korean artist siren eun young jung, in her "Yeoseong Gukgeuk Project" initiated in 2008, reconstructs and revisits the history of "Yeoseong Gukgeuk Project" and the stories of its performers through various means. Her work often emphasizes cross-dressed bodies and histories of same-sex intimacy. This talk introduces the history of Yeoseong Gukgeuk in Korea during the 1950s–1960s, the cultural productions and historical revisitations that emerged after the 1990s, and focuses on siren eun young jung’s artistic acts and works. It seeks to present "Yeoseong Gukgeuk" as a complex interweaving of "body" and "history," as well as an artistic "site," "subject," and "method."
