This talk revolves around the Vtuber phenomenon presently in vogue, including the evolution from YouTuber to Vtuber. Echoing the advent of metaverse, this talk also guides the audience to cogitate upon why virtual characters is instead more popular than real people under this trend.

LUO He-Lin earned his MA from the Graduate School of Arts and Technology, Taipei National University of the Arts, and his PhD from the Graduate Institute of Networking and Multimedia, National Taiwan University. He has long engaged in the research on Internet culture and digital technology and related them to issues concerning quotidian existence, environment, and cities. In terms of transdisciplinary curatorial practice, he pioneers the presentation form of “installation files.” His curatorial works include GAME‧NOT OVER‧YET Special Video Game Exhibition, From Hatsune–Special Exhibition on Contemporary Art and Idol Culture, When Manga Intervenes in Society, Micro-Resonance: The post-Dwelling to Be Determined, Ruins x City x Legend, Format Daily, Urban Parasitism, Urban Mach Band, Nostalgia Machine, and so forth. In terms of contemporary art, he treats his residency experience at the Treasure Hill Artist Village as the point of departure, setting out on a long voyage of observation on the center-periphery relation of cities. He was selected as the curator of the year by the Taiwan Art Gallery Association in 2012 and the Association of the Visual Arts in Taiwan in 2013. He was also the curator of the Taipei Art District Festival in 2015 and 2016, as well as the curator of the 20th Anniversary Exhibition of the Shin Leh Yuan Art Space in 2017. He is currently an assistant professor in the Graduate Institute of Animation and Film Art, Tainan National University of the Arts.
