Air Structure Lab—Breathing on the Island

“Breathing on the Island” is an experiment with three-fold directions:

1. the research of composite materials: through the trials of different inflatable fabrics, the project aims to develop a fabric that can seal the air and achieve the features of quick inflation and deflation, being airtight and water-proof.

2. the processing method of inflatable fabric: through the studies of pattern and origami, the fabric will be folded and imposed with a specific structure. By inflating the structure, it will grow from two-dimensional plane to a three-dimensional balloon; furthermore, it can be easily stored after deflation.

3. the combination of inflatable fabric and components: putting small components and sensors in the inflatable material to reach the intelligence function.

CREATORS

Air Structure Lab

“Air Structure Lab” was founded by Yu Cheng-Lung and Hsu Yeh-Tzu. It specializes in air structure research and makes use of the mechanism of inflation and folding to create meaningful deformed objects for making future life more convenient. The team devotes to studying the structure of the air and the possibility of its application and development.
