Director Rithy Panh, who was left an orphan four decades ago due to the Cambodian genocide under the Khmer Rouge, once again embarks on a search for memories of his family. Inside villages defaced beyond recognition, at countless anonymous graves, and from victims who are reluctant to look back on history, what does he find?

Continuing Panh's films that examine the crime of genocide committed by the Khmer Rouge — such as The Missing Picture (2013) which was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2013 Academy Awards and won the Un Certain Regard prize at the Cannes Film Festival, and the film Exile (2016) — Panh opts with a more peaceful visual approach this time to tell his search for his loved ones and to probe deep into history.
