The Sun is a collaboration between new-media artist TIAN Zi-Ping and composer Willian KUO. This piece builds on TIAN’s work for the National Taichung Theater - Lab X The Young Artists’ Atelier in 2020. It traces the tacit relationship between technology and humanity. People are more trusting and relying more on the operation and assistance of machines nowadays. Therefore, contemporary technological art embodies a tenderness that originates from the physical senses and is based on human reasoning.
This artwork coordinates the momentum of circular laser beams and machines to penetrate dancing bodies. The space within a semi-circle creates a surround sound field that resonates with the audience, as dancers act as physical instruments to transcend the space. This new-media dance performance attempts to build a “relationship” through untouchable visuals and interactions. The intention is to verify the dance and coexistence of machines and physical bodies, which might fundamentally be formed by asymmetrical communication.
