DIVERSONICS, the title of 2021 C-LAB Sound Festival, means diverse sounds. The exhibitions and performances this year are divided into Contemporary Selection, Film Concerts, Sounds of Contemporary Dance, Installations and Performance, and Academy.
Film Concerts features a new soundtrack commissioned by IRCAM Centre-Pompidou from Japanese composer Mayu Hirano for the late Japanese director Teinosuke Kinugasa’s classic silent film A Page of Madness; by integrating music of Noh into an electronic music trio, music and images are interwoven into streams of consciousness through scenes where dreams and reality intersect. For Love and Duty, a new audio-visual work in collaboration with the Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute and based on an old film of the same title, LIU Hui-Wen and LIN Wei-Chieh were selected, and WANG Sue-Ya was invited to jointly compose new songs for this film which is audio-visually re-presented anew through post-production of scenes, thus exploring the interaction between music and image while re-animating the old movie via mutually corresponding visual and audio layers.
