The 2026 annual exhibition of Taiwan Contemporary Culture Lab (C-LAB), WE Are Becoming, will take place from May 8 to August 16. Bringing together artists from nine countries—Taiwan, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Lithuania, and Peru—the exhibition presents 29 cross-media works. Audiences are invited to enter an ever-evolving cultural field and reconsider the role and possibilities of art in contemporary society.

The 2025 Contemporary Art Platform annual exhibition explores the meanings and forces embedded in language through works addressing history, identity, memory, and cultural interpretation. Inspired by Mikhail Bakhtin's concept of polyphony, the exhibition brings together diverse artistic voices to examine the intersections of geopolitics, ethnicity, and gender. By amplifying multiple narratives, it invites audiences to engage with difference, foster dialogue, and envision new possibilities for mutual understanding in an increasingly fragmented world.

Tracing the evolution of lecture performance from 1970s visual art to contemporary practice, Heteroglossia – Lecture Performance Gathering highlights recent works in Taiwan's art scene. As the Contemporary Art Platform’s inaugural 2025 program, the three-day event features live performances and video screenings by Taiwanese artists. Through formats ranging from stand-up monologues and slide presentations to experimental soundscapes and deepfake technology, participating artists explore the narrative potential of language, voice, and body. The program invites audiences to examine how lecture performance crosses media boundaries and shapes subjectivity in the age of AI.

Following the inaugural Future Media Art Festival in 2021, which envisioned the future of art, Taiwan Contemporary Culture Lab (C-LAB) presented the second edition in 2024 under the theme "Singularity." The festival explored the transformations and social implications of the age of artificial intelligence, focusing on AI's rapid development and the new perspectives it brings to contemporary society. Bringing together 23 artists and collectives from nine countries and featuring 26 works, the exhibition invited audiences to engage with the artistic possibilities of the present and the future, while imagining the ever-evolving relationship between humanity, technology, and the world.

This exhibition examines how history continues to shape the present through the textualization of histories and the materialization of memories. Bringing together works that blur the boundaries between fact and fiction, archive and imagination, artists reinterpret historical events, cultural symbols, and collective memories through diverse media and perspectives. Rather than looking back with nostalgia, the exhibition explores how history is continually rewritten, reimagined, and transformed, inviting audiences to reflect on the evolving relationship between memory, culture, and contemporary life.

As contemporary culture increasingly reuses historical materials, anachronism has become the norm. The Internet amplifies this nostalgia, evoking longing for eras people never lived through. Inspired by Mark Fisher's concept of "the slow cancellation of the future"—where capitalist society replaces visionary futures with endless upgrades—this forum reflects on modern cultural production and hauntology. It examines how cultural memories are remixed in the post-internet era and explores possibilities for defiance as past countercultures become nostalgic commodities.

In The Unrestricted Society, artists explore technological dilemmas—including digital privacy, surveillance, facial recognition, deepfakes, and cloned food solutions. Through transdisciplinary collaborations, they utilize new technologies to turn abstract data into unprecedented sensory experiences. Ultimately, the exhibition challenges the notion of technology as a tool for human liberation, offering visitors an alternative perspective on whether technological freedom is genuine or merely an illusion.
